The director, scenic designer and myself felt it was important to keep the story within its original period while also presenting it in a cleaner, leaner visual context; less theatrical, more cinematic. Taking into account the distinct evolution of architecture and fashion in the late 40s-early 50s, we decided to shift the action set in the script by a few years. This slight change allowed us to look at characters differently, heightening their emotional state – their hopes, expectations, delusions and pains.
